Lake of the Woods is very unique. It's located at the junction of the Great Plains and the Canadian Shield, and three glacier periods gave the lake it's unique shape. It's North of the Laurentian Divide, and the Rainy River flows North, into the south shore of the lake, then flows through the islands and rock channels where its main outlet is in Kenora Ontario, and then flows into the Winnipeg River to the north west. It is a magnificent waterbody. Come see the vast beauty and wildlife while angling for walleye. Departing from Wheelers Point, out the mouth of the Rainy River, onto Fourmile Bay, through the Lighthouse gap and onto the waters of Big Traverse Bay and the Northwest Angle.
The amount and variety of natural baitfish thriving in Lake of the Woods is fantastic. The fish are very healthy. The breed of Walleye that thrive in these waters is larger than found in the waterbodies to the south. Catch them jigging, pulling spinners, or down rigging, depending on the bite. Walleye are the target, but a Perch, Burbot, Northern Pike, Muskie, Lake Sturgeon, or a Crappie might grab your bait!
